This design is based on one of the first floral still life's that Van Gogh painted: Small Bottle with Peonies and Blue Delphiniums. It is one of the many studies in which he experimented with certain colours and explored how they influence one another. In colour shades of green, brown, orange, green, blue, ivory, and teal. The blue accents in particular create an interesting and attractive design.

Van Gogh painted this floral still life with fleeting, fluid brush strokes on simple painter's cardboard. His brother Theo wrote to their mother: 'He mainly paints flowers and uses the results to further the crispness of colours in his next paintings. According to Theo, Van Gogh received flowers from his acquaintances every week.

This was one of the first bouquets he worked on as an artist, and many more would follow. The design of the quilt cover features a cut-out of the real Van Gogh painting. The quilt cover's large floral motif makes it a perfect match for a classic bedroom design.
